PARTIAL SPECIAL CENSUS

A message from the Village of Wonder Lake, IL

The Partial Special Census we had hoped would happen this summer, has finally been scheduled to begin on or around September 18, 2008. The U.S. Census Bureau will conduct a Partial Special Census in the Village of Wonder Lake in areas where the Village population has grown due to new construction or due to the many new residents who have joined the Village through recent annexations. The Special Census process allows our community to get an updated certified population count.  This new certified count is vital in helping the Village to qualify for additional state revenue needed to provide essential local services and to bring the state taxes you pay, back to the area in which you live, approximately $100 per each new resident. These additional funds can help finance road improvements, public works equipment, added police and extra hours for enforcement, purchase police department equipment and other essential services.

The Partial Special Census area will include the following subdivisions and areas:


Deep Spring Woods Unit 1, Meadows of West Bay, Shore Hills, Wildwood Association, part of Wonderview Unit I, Woods Creek, Wooded Shores (north end recount) and misc. annexed properties.

If you are in one of the areas listed above, a Census Bureau employee may visit your home and conduct a short interview  (5-7 minutes) in the next few weeks beginning on or around September 18, 2008.  They will wear proper identification badges to identify them as Census workers.  Please cooperate with them and answer their questions as accurately as possible.  The Census Bureau stresses confidentiality in order to maintain the public trust.  Therefore, every Census Bureau worker takes an oath to protect the public’s answers.  If they violate this oath, they will face a maximum of 5 years in jail and a $250,000 fine.  That is the law!  The Census Bureau never releases information that identifies a person or an individual household.  The law and our respect for your privacy means you can trust the Census Bureau, AND the law applies whether or not you’re a U.S. citizen.
